Kochy or Cochin is perhaps one of the oldest trading sections of Kerala.A trading port is said to exist since the Roman times. It is the most important business, tourist and cultural city in the Indian sub-continent and it was on the main trade route between Europe and China.

The city of Cochi has plenty of leisure activities to offer. You can visit its magnificent historical places as well as beautiful beaches, wander through its picturesque streets and squares with Jewish,Dutch,Portuguese and kerala style granite pavements or simply stop and relax at one of the beaches in Cochin. Kerala's museums and historical buildings are also well worth a visit and there are art galleries with works by national and international artists. Most of the historical buildings are in Fort Cochin, and the Portuguese fort founded in 1503 is now a ruin.

Mattancheri Palace is also another attraction. History goes back that the Portuguese built the palace around 1557 as a gift for the raja of Kochi in exchange for trading rights. In 1663, it was substatially re-built by the Dutch who had taken over from the Portuguese. The Palace is on 2 floors and built in a quadrangle.
